17/2 - HNMCS Students in Action
· A delegation of HNMCS Model UN students and their teacher advisor Ms Papadakis were at the University of Toronto until Saturday, February 11th participating in the fifth annual Model UN conference as they prepare to debate and master the art of diplomacy and negotiation. Students participating in the Model UN are: Julia Orsini (gr 9), Alyssa Francavilla (gr 10), Ariana Ali (gr 11), Jazlyn Borges (gr 11),Brittany Salter (gr 11).
· A group of Outreach students were out today at Dr. Simone’s Mississauga Warehouse donating their time to sort various containers to support the poor children of the world through Canadian Food for Children.
· The grade 11 economics class announces the winner of their class Stock Market Investment Challenge - Elizabeth Smith successfully turned her $100,000 into $120,000 within 3 months, reporting a hefty 20% R.O.I! Second runner up was Kristin Hudon, who earned a 19% ROI within 3 months. Both Elizabeth and Kristin returned modest gains by investing in Net Flicks, Apple, and Lulu Lemon.
· CSI: Mississauga Branch at HNMCS! On Monday, February 6th, Mrs. Sibley's Grade 11 and Grade 12 Biology students traveled to the Ontario Science Centre for a day to learn about DNA Fingerprinting, PCR and Electrophoresis techniques in Biotechnology. The students extracted their own DNA from their hair, and analyzed their genetics. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to apply their knowledge using specialized techniques.
· Congratulations to the HNMCS Senior Girl’s Volleyball team for their amazing spirit and determination in the two tournaments at St. Joan of Arc and Mayfield Secondary Schools. Way to go Girls!
