At Holy Name of Mary College School the school uniform is to be worn as a symbol of school pride and community respect. The overall appearance of the students is an important contributing factor to good order and the positive atmosphere at Holy Name of Mary College School. As such, students, with the support and encouragement of their parents, are expected to keep their uniform clean, neat, and in good repair. Only a doctor’s note will excuse a student from wearing a particular item of the uniform. During exam time, the uniform policy is in effect.

All mandatory uniform pieces, including the physical education wear, must be purchased from InSchoolwear, our school uniform supplier, with the exception of black dress shoes and the athletic track suit and sweat shirts. The athletic wear can only be ordered through the school.  It is advisable to mark each uniform piece with the student’s name.

The school uniform consists of the following mandatory items:

• Ramsay Blue kilt
• Navy crested blazer
• White shirt
• Navy crested vest
• Navy knee socks or opaque navy tights
• Black dress shoes: polishable flat black leather dress shoes with a closed heel; maximum 1 inch heel. Ballet shoes, running shoes or sandals are not permitted.

Optional items:

• Grey dress pants
• Long-sleeved crested sweater

Full Dress Uniform

Full Dress Uniform is required for special occasions and when students are participating at events outside the school. It consists of the following uniform pieces only:  Kilt, blazer, white shirt, navy knee socks or navy tights, and black dress shoes.

Other Uniform Combinations:  On days where Full Dress Uniform is not required, students may wear the following combinations:

Kilt, grey pants (according to date below), white shirt, vest and/or blazer or long sleeved sweater, navy socks or navy opaque tights, black dress shoes.  The blazer, vest or sweater must be worn at all times.  From October 13^th to May 24^th    students may wear the HNMCS grey dress pants in place of the kilt (This does not apply to Full Dress Uniform days). 

Physical Education Uniform

• Royal blue T-Shirt (mandatory - purchase at Inschoolwear)
• Black Crested Shorts (mandatory - purchase at Inschoolwear)
• Athletic Warm-Up Suit (mandatory - purchase at school)
• HNMCS sweatshirt or Yoga sweatshirt, fleece track pants (optional - purchase at school)

HNMCS physical education uniform, supplied by InSchoolwear, must be worn during physical education classes and for all team practices.

Additional Uniform Guidelines

• Kilts are to be worn at a length no shorter than three inches above the knee.  Kilts may not be rolled up.
• T-shirts and turtlenecks may not be worn under the blouse.
• Visible coloured undergarments or undergarments with writing or designs are not permitted.
• “Natural makeup” appropriate for the school environment is permitted.
• Clear or pale coloured well-kept nail polish is permitted for junior school students. Senior school students may wear well-kept nail polish, the colour of their choice.
• A maximum of two pairs of earrings is permitted.  These must be small stud earrings and/or small hoops.
• Students may wear a small cross on a necklace.  No other jewellery (except earrings noted above) is permitted.
• Visible body piercing other than earrings as noted is not permitted.
• Hair accessories must be navy blue, black or white for dress uniform only.  Other coloured hair accessories are permitted on all other school days.
• Hair must be natural colours. No unusual coloured hair is permitted.
• Students are required to wear their uniform to and from school.
• Students may not change in the hallways or other public spaces.

Periodically throughout the school year, students are permitted to come to school in casual clothing. This is called “Casual Dress Day”, which is usually done in coordination with a charity fundraiser and notification will be given in advance. 

Students must wear clothing appropriate for the school environment.  The following items are not permitted:

• Short tops showing the midriff
• Low cut tops
• Tops with spaghetti straps
• Low rise pants below the hips
• Shorts above the knee
• Very short skirts
