Our Faculty

Ms. Kathryn Anderson BA, B.Ed., OCT holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Religious Studies as well as a Bachelor of Education from Laurentian University's Concurrent Education Program. Ms. Anderson is the Grade 5 homeroom teacher and is the Grade 5 and 6 Dramatic Arts teacher. She runs the Middle School Drama Club and coaches a variety of under 12 athletic activities.

 

Ms. Jennifer Apuzzo, BA, B.Ed., OCT is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and a minor in geography and drama.  She teaches geography, careers and civics.  She contributes to the arts programme by assisting with the production of our concerts and festival. She also coaches middle and intermediate soccer and is the director of the yearbook club.

 

Dr. Laura Barbieri, Ph.D teaches French in the middle and senior school. She holds a doctorate degree in Foreign Languages and Literature and speaks five languages. She has extensive international teaching experience. Dr. Barbieri has a passion for the history of the arts, offers our students enrichment opportunities in our Italian club and multi-cultural events and moderates the outreach club. She also leads the HNMCS educational tour to Italy with our grade 11 students.

 

Ms. Lori Bromley, BA, CA, B.Ed., OCT teaches grade 11 economics and accounting.  She has a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Western Ontario and is both a Chartered Accountant and a qualified teacher of business and mathematics. She contributes to the co-curricular programme with fitness classes and computer skills workshops for the middle school students.

 

Ms. Kate Burgess, BA, B.Ed., OCT holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto with a combined specialist in English and History.  After many years of teaching in Ontario schools, she spent several years teaching in Turkey and India.  In addition to travelling and exploring new cultures, she also completed qualifications as a teacher librarian and in teaching yoga and she produced several plays and musicals.  She teaches English and Social Studies in grades 7–12. 

Mr. Enzo Carcasole, HBA, B.Ed., MEd, OCT joins HNMCS this year as the Head of the Senior School.  Mr. Carcasole has an undergraduate degree from York University, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto, and a Master's in Education degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He also holds Ontario Principal's Qualification as well.  He taught for 15 years with the TCDSB prior to teaching for the past 10 years at St. Michael's College School as a senior English teacher and assistant chair of the English Department. Mr. Carcasole is an experienced coach, having coached boys' basketball, girls' basketball, and hockey. At St. Michael's, Mr. Carcasole produced and directed 3 student dramatic presentations and he looks forward to continuing his work with dramatic arts with the students of HNMCS.

 

Ms. Jaclyn Carere, BSc, B.Ed., OCT holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Life Sciences from the University of Toronto. Ms. Carere teaches physical education, religion and science and she is also our Athletic Director. She coaches our basketball, volleyball, track and cross country teams and is the moderator of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

 

Mrs. Margaret DeCourcy, BPHE, B.Ed., MEd, OCT is the President of HNMCS. She holds a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education, Bachelor of Education and a Masters of Education from the University of Toronto. She taught English and Physical Education and was Head of Students Services with the TCDSB for 20 years before joining the faculty at St. Michael’s College School in 2000. She was named HNMCS Project Director in 2006 and founding President of HNMCS in 2008. She is a director on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award board of directors. 

 

Ms. Meaghan DeCourcy, HBA, B.Ed., OCT is a graduate from the University of Guelph with an Honours BA in Visual Arts and Art History.  She received her Bachelor of Education from OISE of the University of Toronto, and has a Specialist Designation in Visual Art. Ms. DeCourcy, who is a graduate of Holy Name of Mary, is excited to be joining HNMCS to teach grade 5 and 6 French, Physical Education and grade 7 and 9 Visual Art.  As a sport enthusiast, she enjoys coaching soccer and basketball. She is a practicing artist who has sold paintings in Ontario and British Columbia. She is the director of visual art Camp Kaleidoscope and offers private art lessons after school. Ms. DeCourcy joins HNMCS from Rotherglen School in Oakville where she taught for the past 4 years. 

 

Mrs. Bernadette Hunt, BA, B.Ed., OCT is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an Honours BA in Fine Art. She teaches visual arts in the senior school and she maintains an open studio for students during our co-curricular period.  Mrs. Hunt also designs sets and costumes for the community theatre group, the Toronto Irish Players and has won many awards from The Association of Community Theatres for Central Ontario for her designs.

 

Mr. James McLevey, BA, B.Ed., MDiv, OCT holds a Bachelor degree in Philosophy and is a graduate of Kings College, University of Western Ontario with a Master of Divinity degree. He teaches Religion and is the school Chaplain. Mr. McLevey has an extensive background in social justice initiatives, mission trips and developing programs for Christian leadership.

 

Ms. Jenny Papadakis, BA, B.Ed., OCT holds an honours Bachelor of Arts from Brock University where she studied in the concurrent education programme.  She has a major in History and a minor in English.  She teaches history and law and her co-curricular involvement includes the instruction of yoga and moderating the outreach club.

 

Mrs. Kristin Prillo, BSc, B.Ed., OCT has a Bachelor of Science majoring in Elementary Education from the College of Charleston, in Charleston, S.C. She taught grade 5 and 6 for ten years at a private school for girls in Toronto before coming to HNMCS. She moderates co-curricular activities in the middle school and is one of the moderators of the student council.

 

Ms. Natalie Rebello (formerly McDunnough), BSc, B.Ed., OCT holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto with a Specialist in Mathematics and a Specialist in Music. She holds a Performance Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music and she is an accomplished pianist and violinist. She teaches Math to students in grades 7-11 and she co-directs our award winning school choir and moderates the math club.

 

Mrs. Kim Sibley, BSc., B.Ed., M.Sc., OCT, Head of Middle School, has been teaching Middle school Science, Senior Biology and Guidance courses for over 10 years.  Mrs. Sibley approaches teaching to include student-centred, inquiry-based learning with relevant applications to society, technology and the environment.  She joins HNMCS from Appleby College in Oakville, where she held the position of Assistant Director, Senior School and co-chair of the Joint Health & Safety committee.  She has led social justice service projects for high school students in Guatemala and Argentina, and enjoys acting as the faculty advisor for co-curricular activities to promote student leadership and social responsibility.  Mrs. Sibley has completed additional qualifications in school administration, guidance and special education.  She teaches grade 8 Science, grade 11 and 12 Biology and is the faculty advisor for the Prefects.

Ms. Marilena Tesoro, BA, B.Ed., MScEd, OCT is the Principal of HNMCS. She is a graduate of St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto and has a Master of Science in Education degree from Niagara University. She has over 27 years experience in education with the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board in a variety of teaching and administrative roles.  Most recently, she was founding principal of Archbishop Romero C.S.S. and spent the last 2 years seconded to the Ministry of Education as an Education Officer in the Student Success /L18 Strategic Policy Branch.  Having taught in both elementary and secondary schools, Ms. Tesoro has specialist certificates in guidance, special education and religious education.

Ms. Sarah Valentim, BMus, B.Ed., OCT, teaches vocal music. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education from OISE at the University of Toronto.  Since completing her degrees, Ms. Valentim has performed in various operas, concerts, and summer programs throughout Ontario, Banff, Alberta, and Sulmona, Italy.  In addition to performing, she has experience teaching voice and piano lessons privately. 

Ms. Simone Vandaiyar, B.Sc., B.Ed., OCT holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Honours Biochemistry, and a minor in English Language and Literature, from the University of Waterloo.  Ms. Vandaiyar teaches science and senior chemistry.  She helps moderate Student Council, Model UN group, and the senior Book Club.  

Ms. Sarah Zbogar, BA, B.Ed., MA, OCT is a graduate of Holy Name of Mary and she also taught here for several years in the 1990’s. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christianity and Culture and a Masters of Arts degree in English both from the University of Toronto. She is an accomplished violinist and teacher of piano and vocal music and is well known for her choral direction, and the production of concerts and musicals. She teaches religion and moderates the HNMCS outreach club.
