Outdoor Education
Each year our students in all grades enjoy a three day fun-filled adventure to Camp Wanakita where they experience the true beauty of our Canadian winters. Under the supervision of our teachers, administrators and the qualified staff of A.L.I.V.E. Outdoors, our students participate in cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, skating, high and low ropes initiatives and a variety of other outdoor activities, as well as initiatives which promote a sense of belonging and community.
Rooted in our trips are the goals of increasing communication skills, enhancing group cooperation, improving problem-solving skills, enhancing leadership skills, and increasing respect and trust for oneself and for the group. Experience beyond the classroom walls helps provide our students with the building blocks needed to continue to move forward as connected, resilient, competent, confident, and self-aware young women.
Research shows that through carefully designed risk programs, young women develop new personal and life perspectives and a better understanding of themselves and how they relate to others. Our outdoor education programs are structured to ensure success for all participants, both as individuals and team members.
Being both a leader and camper with ALIVE Outdoors, I have had many experiences that truly make my high school experience a memorable one. Despite the fact that I have only one high school year left with ALIVE Outdoors, my journey in life is only beginning, and the many things that this program has helped me understand and learn, will last a lifetime.
