Spinal Shock win at FLL qualifiers
The HNMCS LEGO-Robotics Team, Spinal Shock, did an outstanding job representing our school at the FLL regional qualifying tournament on Saturday, November 27th. They surpassed all others and brought home the first place trophy for displaying the core values of inspiration, teamwork and gracious professionalism. Their outstanding efforts also placed them fourth overall gaining them advancement to the provincial FLL tournament.
FLL, the result of a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Group, is a powerful program that engages young children in playful and meaningful learning while helping them to discover the fun in science and technology.
Spinal Shock worked diligently designing, building and programming autonomous robots to complete challenging missions and designing an innovative new cure for spinal cord injuries. Our ten brave and energetic girls got up very early on a cold and windy Saturday morning to run their little robot around a very challenging obstacle course. The programming team - Aniela, Ophelia, Lianna and Alexandra showed great creativity and innovation in solving mission challenges, and the presentation team of Iluore, Natalie, Rachel, Sara, Priyasha and Emily did an outstanding job telling the judges about their fantastic new idea for curing spinal cord injuries. Other team members Teya, Monica, Jessie and Madison who could not make it to the tournament were with us in spirit!
Their coach and the school are very proud of them and wish them continued success in their next tournament. A special thank you goes out to the parents who came to the tournament and showed their support with cheering and delicious treats. Way to go team "Spinal Shock"!
