From Volleyball to Hockey, the HNMCS Stars were busy this season....busy winning that is!

Varsity hockey

The Senior hockey team started their season with two practices and a long road trip to Lakefield. Equipped with a full roster of 18 players, the girls put together an outstanding performance to claim a 5-3 victory. The team was led by Sophia Gorgiev ‘23 who scored two goals and added one assist, while Davis Wells ‘23, Leah Risavy ‘23, and Abigail Filippazzo ‘24 were the other goal scorers. Sonya Yacynowych ‘23, playing her first game in goal in years, was outstanding and made several game-saving saves in the third period. The team gets a well-deserved rest before regrouping in the new year!

Varsity volleyball

After a two year absence due to COVID, the senior volleyball team returned to the court with much enthusiasm and excitement. Their season started with a successful exhibition win against Crestwood before starting CISAA league play with two home games. The first, a matchup against Trafalgar Castle School, went the home team’s way with the Stars winning both sets (25-16, 25-10). They immediately followed that with an impressive performance against Toronto French School, again winning both sets (25-4, 25-16). The team looks forward to getting back on the court in the new year!

U14 volleyball

The U14 volleyball team started their season in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) with two wins and two excellent performances. The team’s first win was an exhibition game against Crestwood Preparatory School. HNMCS came away with a 3 sets to 0 victory and a confidence-building win to start the season.

The following day, Bayview Glen visited HNMCS. It was a tight and competitive game, but HNMCS was victorious with a 2 sets to 0 win. The team has steadily improved and can feel confident in their individual and collective ability for the remainder of the season.

Middle School Hockey

There has been great interest in our new co-curricular option for Middle School - floor hockey! Over 20 Middle School students have signed up for floor hockey and have met once a week in the gym to work on their passing, puck handling, and shooting skills. It is extremely exciting to see this level of enthusiasm for floor hockey and we look forward to continuing to work on our hockey skills in the new year!
