New HNMCS Students are Welcomed to their “Second Home”

With perfect summer weather to set the stage, the HNMCS community gathered on Thursday, June 14 to welcome its newest students and provide a dynamic preview to what they can expect in the fall. This year’s Welcome Day provided the HNMCS community to provide a dynamic first orientation to all the new students entering studies in the Fall.

Upon arrival, the new students were greeted by current students and faculty members, who were happy to introduce the girls and their families to all the school has to offer. The celebration began in the gymnasium where the Head of School, Ms. Marilena Tesoro, took the opportunity to warmly welcome the new families to the HNMCS community. Ms. Tesoro encouraged each new student to harness her skills to thrive in leadership roles. Ms. Kathryn Anderson, Director of Schools, provided a rich overview of all the school’s co-curricular and unique programmes.

Newly elected Student Government President Geneva Hines ’19 and Vice President Julia Fuoco ’19 described to the audience how HNMCS has helped shape them into well-rounded leaders. Here’s some of what they had to say:

“On behalf of the entire Student Government, we can without a doubt say that Holy Name is much more than just a school to us; it’s become a second home where we are loved and appreciated for being ourselves and learn to grow to be amazing leaders. Holy Name is where we get to spend the best years of our lives with the people we love. With that being said, we just wanted to say one more thing… Welcome Home!

This “Welcome Home” message was captured in a video (see below) highlighting all the amazing activities conducted throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. In an entertaining fashion show, Student Government members modelled the variety of uniform, athletic and spiritwear combinations that new students could sport in the new school year.

The next stop was the HNMCS cafeteria where the girls found t-shirts in their house colours awaiting them. All the girls headed outdoors to meet each other and form new friendships as faculty and current students led a variety of fun games.

The event concluded with a delicious summer bbq and the beautiful weather provided the perfect environment for new families to meet and mingle with HNMCS faculty and other parents. HNMCS is delighted once again to welcome many new students and their families, and everyone is looking forward to working together in the upcoming academic year to enrich the educational experience of all the new students.
