Advent: A Season of Hope

The StargazerNews

Let’s approach Christmas with an expectant hush, rather than a last-minute rush.

Advent is the liturgical season that approaches Christmas. It is a time of waiting, preparation and hope for the coming of our savior, Jesus. As a school community, we prepare our hearts for Advent by listening to members of Middle School Campus Ministry on the morning announcements. In the main lobby, we proudly display ornaments corresponding to stories from Genesis to the Gospels, each story leading us one step closer to Jesus’ coming in Bethlehem.

On December 3rd, we celebrated our Advent Mass virtually. We extend heartfelt thanks to Blessed Trinity Parish in North York, especially Fr. Ed Murphy, who celebrated the Mass. Although we cannot yet gather all together in person, many staff and students expressed how much they enjoyed knowing that Mass was being offered for their intentions. Dr. Kozma fondly said, “For just a moment it felt like I was in church, with the beautiful music!”

Finally, filled with joy, we ran the Joy of Giving Campaign, where students and staff were invited to bring in gift cards for large department stores so families affiliated with the Hamilton Catholic Children’s Aid Society could purchase gifts for Christmas. We raised over $2000 in gift cards for these families in need.

We wish you a blessed Advent, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
