Celebrating Athletic Achievements

On Monday May 11th, Holy Name of Mary College School hosted their first ever virtual athletic banquet via Google Meet. Over 60 athletes, coaches, and teachers attended the ceremony. Spirit and Star Awards were handed out for each of the Fall and Winter athletic teams. The spirit award is for a member of each team who demonstrated a high level of commitment, perseverance and enthusiasm, showing continuous improvement throughout the season. This is someone who was highly dedicated to their improvement as a player, the well being of their team and could be relied on by coaches and teammates. The Stars award, also known as the Merit award, is for a person on each team who demonstrated the best qualities of a team sports player: sportsmanship, leadership, commitment and skill. They demonstrated unwavering commitment to their team and acted as a leader and role model during practices and competitions.


The Athletic Leadership Award was also given out. This award recognizes a student-athlete or athletes in Grade 12 who have made an exemplary contribution to the advancement of the Athletics program throughout their time at HNMCS. They have demonstrated strong leadership either as the captain of teams, helping promote athletics around the school, and or by setting a strong example of what it means to be a member of the HNMCS Athletics program. Congratulations Isabella Peccia '20, Senna Fabricius '20, and Lydia Piller-Tahy '20.

Furthermore, the Athletic Merit Award was distributed. The Athletic Merit Award is awarded to a student or students in Grade 12 who have demonstrated unwavering commitment to both the athletics and arts programs at HNMCS. These students have not only been a part of a Senior team all three terms of the school year but have balanced a diverse Co-Curricular schedule, remaining active in all areas of school life. This student or students demonstrate what it means to be a well-rounded HNMCS student. Congratulations Victoria Migliore '20 and Natalie Cimerman '20.

Finally, the ceremony concluded with the Junior and Senior Athlete of the Year awards. Congratulations to Christina Caklos ('22) and Carina Choi ('22) for sharing the Junior Athlete of the Year, and to Rachel Senatore ('20) for earning the Senior Athlete of the Year award.

Special mention to Athletic Prefect Isabella Peccia ('20) and new Athletic Prefect Grace Montemurro ('21) for their hardwork and dedication to ensuring the success of the ceremony. Go Stars!
