A Day of Giving

On Tuesday, November 29th students at HNMCS participated in National Giving Tuesday by holding various workshops to benefit both the HNMCS and local community. The Social Justice Council hosted an exciting school assembly to kick start the day and highlighted the significance of Giving Tuesday and why it is important to have a charitable heart to help those who are less fortunate. We began with prayer and the girls spent the entire morning in various outreach stations such as rosary making; crafts with the Felician Sisters to create funds for their missions, hygiene packages to address period poverty(125 kits made); wellness kits for the school; sandwich kits for the homeless at Haven on the Queensway. These stations were presented to the girls ahead of time so they could prepare with materials and donations. Each station focused on important themes such as: access to feminine hygiene, poverty, wellness, evangelization, social connectedness, community and history. The response was incredible with everyone coming together to work on a cause they were passionate about and valued.

The students at HNMCS had also been collecting cans for the Canadian Food for Children society over the last few weeks, and to end the day off had a friendly competition between the HNMCS Houses (Bella, Chara, Electra & Nashira) to see which House could build the tallest, most creative, and House Spirited structure. Through this action-packed meaningful day the girls were able to actively participate in causes that helped others. It was truly a beautiful way to enter into the Advent season where we are reminded of the gift of generosity.
