To Whom Much is Given, Much is Required

On Tuesday, Nov 28th, HNMCS observed Giving Tuesday. As a Catholic learning community, we looked to scripture to anchor our reason for a day of service. We each have been blessed with countless gifts, much has been given to us indeed. Responding to all the graces we have received, we give back. God blesses us and in turn, we are asked to bless our communities, much is required indeed.

Giving Tuesday has been a long-standing tradition at Holy Name and this year, we continued our commitment to faith-based service and community care. From making sandwiches for local shelters and delivering books to low-income neighbourhoods to making affirming self-care kits and creating rosaries for various mission trips, we did our best to put love into action in our little corner of the world. From writing letters to seniors and working to increase inclusion and belonging, to gathering supplies for women’s shelters and decorating the school in a cheerful and uplifting way, we tried to foster a tiny bit of heaven, here on earth.

There were many moving moments during the day. It was beautiful to be all together, united in a common goal of service, putting more of our school’s Felician values into a world that sorely needs it. For a moment, we realised God’s dream by becoming our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers and heeded St. Luke’s call: “to whom much is given, much is required.”
