Engaging Minds: HNMCS Model UN Shines at 2024 Conferences

We’re proud to share exciting news from HNMCS’ participation in two Model United Nations Conferences this past winter season.

Model UN is an invaluable opportunity for students to immerse themselves in global affairs, diplomacy, and critical thinking. It’s a platform where they can debate, negotiate, and collaborate to find solutions to real-world issues, all while embodying the roles of diplomats representing various countries, political figures, and more.

On February 24th, three delegates attended the 10th annual King’s MUN at King’s Christian Collegiate in Oakville, ON. Ella K. ‘28, Nemine A. ‘27, and Majella M. ‘25 delved into pressing issues from discussing migrant safety to affordable housing and homelessness in the GTA. The three delegates engaged in spirited debates and forged alliances to draft resolutions that address these complex issues. Their dedication and passion were evident as they navigated through the intricacies of international and political relations.

Our students carried their enthusiasm to their second MUN Conference, ACMUN XIX hosted at Appleby College on April 1th. Ella K. ‘28, was joined by Lauren J. ‘28, Ayanna S. ‘28, and Cristina R. ‘26 to tackle new topics with fervour and adaptability. Addressing topics such as education in developing areas and war zones, ethics within artificial intelligence, drug trafficking and human trafficking, our delegates were able to showcase their public speaking and problem solving skills as they discussed and contributed to creation of successful resolution papers.

Participating in Model UN not only enriches students academically but also fosters essential life skills such as public speaking, negotiation, and cultural understanding. It’s a journey of personal and intellectual growth that prepares them for the challenges of an interconnected world. Congratulations to all the students who represented HNMCS at these MUN conferences! Their dedication and achievements exemplify the spirit of excellence that we strive for at HNMCS. We look forward to continuing our journey in Model UN and empowering more students to make a positive impact on the world stage!
