HNMCS’ Eco Club achieved Platinum EcoSchools Status!
On Wednesday May 2, 2018, Ontario EcoSchool inspectors and trainees dropped by at HNMCS for a school site visit. Ontario EcoSchools is a voluntary certification program that recognizes and celebrates Ontario schools for their environmental learning and action. The onsite visit started with an interview with the Eco Team Executive members represented by students Geneva Hines, India Sharma, and Juliana Corbett, who were excited to share their year long successes, initiatives and future plans.
The students then walked the Eco School representatives through the school showcasing their Eco indoor garden, Eco Bulletin Board, GOOS paper initiatives, 3R’s Feather Mural, Milk Bag Mat Making Station, and more. The visit ended outdoors where the students shared their vision for the outdoor garden.
A big thank you to the entire eco club for your tireless hours of dedication to ensuring the school’s Platinum status. A special thanks also to the University of Toronto and Mrs. Hines for her invaluable time, donations and efforts dedicated to the success of the Eco Club in the 2017-2018 year! Great job everyone on an excellent year of eco-achievements!
Shopping with Environmental Purpose
Further building on the HNMCS’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, we participate in Givalry’s $10,000 school greening giveaway. Givalry is an online marketplace of purpose-driven brands and cause-driven organizations. With every purchase, Givalry gives back 25% of the value of the purchase to the organization of the shopper’s choice.
Using Givalry, the HNMCS community can shop online for everyday goods, while donating to the HNMCS school community. Our plans are to use this funding to revamp our outdoor classroom, build an eco garden, purchase additional water bottle refilling stations and install vertical garden walls.
