Alumna Update - Elizabeth Smith
On May 4, HNMCS alumna and writer Elizabeth Smith ’13 shared her insights on becoming a writer and her educational journey with Grade 12 Writer’s Craft students.
Elizabeth is a published author who recently graduated from the Creative Writing (BA) program at Concordia University in Montreal. She has just completed a full-length graphic novel is now working on a memoir.
During her visit, Elizabeth led a creative writing workshop, where students wrote 20-minute stories based on constructed prompts. Students left the session inspired to submit their own work to publishing agencies.
Congratulations to Gabrielle Michael ‘18 and Claire Trotter ‘18 for winning first and third place respectively in the age 15 to 18 category of the Young Reporters for the Environment competition. Both girls are students in the Writer's Craft class and submitted articles to the prestigious competition on this year’s theme: The problem with plastic.
Gabrielle’s article will be published in Alternatives Journal and she will also be entered in the international Young Reporters for the Environment competition, which receives entries from more than 27 countries around the world. Claire’s article will be published on the Environmental Defence website. Well done, girls!
